Memorial Day Weekend 2012
Lester and Michael went to Denver for our nephew's graduation so Lauren and I decided to go to Iowa to see Grandma Oetzmann. She is 94. We haven't seen her in several years and not sure when we will get there again. Saturday morning we flew to Kansas City and got a rental car.
Then we drove from Kansas City to Minneapolis to the Mall of America. We got a hotel room across the street from the mall, checked in and headed to the Mall of America.
Then we did a little shopping and had some dinner.
These are couple of pictures of the amusement park inside the Mall of America.
Sunday we got up and drove to Wheatland Iowa where Grandma is living in a care facility. She was surprised to see us even though I had written in her Mother's Day card that we were coming. She looked great and talked pretty good with us. Here are a few pictures of Lauren and I and Grandma.
After visiting with Grandma and getting a tour of the facility, Lauren and I headed to Davenport to find a hotel and await a call from Dad about meeting for dinner. First we drove past Grandma's old farm. Here is a picture of the house. Her father built this house and she lived her whole life in it until Grandpa died and she sold it so she could move into an assisted living facility. I miss this place. Grandma does too and so we showed her a picture on Monday when we went back for another visit.
About 5:30 we met Dad and Pat at Gramma's Kitchen at the truck port for dinner. We had a nice time visiting.
Sunday we went back to visit Grandma and then had lunch with Aunt Bonnie and Uncle Rick and all their kids and grandkids on their farm. Got some delicious banana bread and chocolate drop cookies! Then we drove back to Kansas City for the night to be close for our flight in the morning. Lauren and I had a great time together this weekend!
Next up....a week north of Seattle for my niece's graduation....leaving this Saturday!
